Phinney Estate Law is a small, local firm serving individuals and families in the Seattle area by providing legal assistance with estate planning, probate, guardianship, and other related matters, such as immigration, family law, and small business services.

In the estate planning area, Phinney Estate Law provides to clients all of the traditional estate planning tools including wills, trusts, and durable powers of attorney.  What makes our holistic approach to estate planning unique is our focus on making sure that the tools utilized match up with the client core values and larger goals for their lives and their families.

In the probate and guardianship contexts we use this same approach and focus our practice on helping families and individuals to efficiently achieve their legal goals while working to maintain as fully as possible family harmony and personal dignity. As a result our probate and guardianship practice emphasizes non-litigated conflict resolution, especially between family members, whenever possible. 

Attorney Profile

Jamie founded Phinney Estate Law in 2007 as a way of addressing a need she saw in the community for affordable, values-based estate planning and as a way to develop a legal practice that was consistent with her own values and legal philosophy.  Before founding Phinney Estate Law Jamie worked as a litigation associate at Cozen O’Connor, as an attorney advisor for the U.S. Department of Justice, and as legal intern for Northwest Immigration Rights Project and Northwest Justice Project.  (Learn More)

Holistic Approach

At Phinney Estate Law we are committed to a holistic approach to providing legal services and have structured our practice to that end.  Holistic law, like the more commonly understood holistic medicine, strives to provide services that take into account the whole person, including their emotions, values, and unique family dynamics.

As holistic lawyers, while helping clients achieve their specific legal goals in each case, we also strive to wholly honor and respect the dignity and integrity of each individual; listen intentionally and deeply in order to gain complete understanding of the clients needs; and encourage compassion, reconciliation, forgiveness and healing wherever needed.  Whenever possible we help clients to achieve a non-litigated resolution of any disputes that arise. 

In the planning context, this holistic approach leads us to take the time to learn about clients family dynamics, values, and big picture goals for their families and their biggest concerns for the future.  In addition to drafting legal documents for our clients such as Durable Powers of Attorney, Advance Health Care Directives, Wills, and Trusts,  we assist client who are interested in developing non-legal tools such as the drafting of ethical wills, legacy letters, and parenting statements and the development of a legacy plan for during their life. Environmental Sustainability
